Intro to Backcountry Cooking & Winter Camping make up the baseline skills of Alpinism 100-Welcome to the Alpine! We worked on meal planning and cooking basics at Second Ascent; now we take our skills into the winter landscape of the Cascades! When we begin to climb and hike the high alpine peaks of the Cascades, Olympics and beyond we need to learn the basic skills of meal preparation, cooking snow travel and winter camp craft. The course focuses on movement skills on snow without an ice axe, snow anchors, basic map & compass, winter camp site selection and management. -choosing the right stove for the right situation
-how to plan a menu
-what to pack
-where to shop
-how to cook your own delicious meals
